How we source this
Every claim traces to a tiered register. Here is the rule.
Every factual claim on this site traces to a source. Sources are tiered, and the tier decides how a source may be used.
- Tier 1 — primary
- The vendor documenting its own product; a regulator or standards body publishing its own text. May be cited as fact.
- Tier 2 — research
- Peer-reviewed research, or a research organisation publishing its own method and data. May be cited as fact, with the method and its limits stated.
- Tier 3 — points, never supports
- Law-firm client alerts, trade press, named practitioners. Leads you to the primary document; is never itself the citation.
Numbers such as prices, context windows, limits and dates in force come from Tier 1 only. That is where bad secondary sources do their real damage.
Every guide lists its sources with an access date at the foot of the page, along with the date it was last re-checked.
