Prices, versions, deadlines and news drift past a model's training data. Asking without search gets you a confident answer from last year.
Its confident info turned out to be outdated? Here's the quick fix ↓ — the why sits right below it.
Quick fix: For current facts, make it search
Instead of What does a Pro plan cost?
Try Search for the current price of [product]'s Pro plan and give me the source page. If you can't search, say what your information's cutoff is instead of guessing.
For anything that can change, ask for a search with a source — or at least for the date the model's knowledge ends.
Why this works
A model's built-in knowledge stops at its training cutoff, and it does not naturally flag which facts have drifted since. Prices, product features, versions, laws in force, people in roles, anything "current": these are exactly where a fluent answer is most likely to be quietly outdated. With search enabled, the answer comes with pages you can open; without it, the honest version of the answer is "as of my cutoff", and you have to ask to get it.
When this applies
The question contains a hidden "as of today": costs, deadlines, versions, availability, who holds a position, what a law currently requires.
Template
This needs current information. Search for [the fact], tell me what you found, and link the source. Note anything where sources disagree.
Go deeper
Reading past the AI summary to the sources it cites is the skill — web search and citations covers it, including the failure where a summary flattens a source's caveats. The general checking habit is its own pattern, and the deeper method is verifying what you cannot judge.
